ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1. Implements occupational therapy services in accordance with the plan of treatment developed by the occupational therapist and signed by the physician and planned, delegated and supervised by the occupational therapist.

2. Implements use of orthotics designed by the occupational therapist and as indicated by the client’s condition and needs.

3. Treats the client through the use of therapeutic activities designed to restore function and self care activities designed to improve function under the direction of the occupational therapist.

4. Observes, records and reports the client’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the client’s condition to the occupational therapist, and/or case manager and other staff involved at least every 60 days.

5. Assists in preparing client clinical notes and progress reports according to agency policy and time frames.

6. Participates in instructing the client, family and other health team personnel in the exercise program developed by the occupational therapist for strengthening and controlling the client’s upper extremities.

7. Cooperates with occupational therapist and appropriate staff to provide staff education when requested and arranged by the clinical manager and/or case manager.

8. Demonstrates and teaches alternate techniques developed by the occupational therapist to complete activities of daily living, proper transfers and positioning.

9. Assists the occupational therapist in ordering and/or fabricating adaptive/assistive devices and equipment.

10. Attends client care conferences. Initiates client care conferences for complex and/or multidisciplinary clients when needed or helpful to ensure good coordination of care.

11. Develops, prepares and maintains individualized client care progress records with accuracy, timeliness and according to policies. Submits accurate documentation according to Agency guidelines.

12. Keeps abreast of therapy trends and knowledge. Participates in inservice programs.

13. Participates in the agency’s quality improvement program.

14. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE – Meets the requirements for certification as an occupational therapy assistant established by the American Occupational Therapy Association; or has two years of appropriate experience as an occupational therapy assistant and has achieved a satisfactory grade on a proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service. Determinations of proficiency do not apply to persons initially licensed by a state or seeking initial qualification as a occupational therapy assistant after December 31, 1977.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS – Valid occupational therapy assistant license in all states which are part of catchment area. Must maintain patient care standards (i.e., CPR certification, OSHA compliance, TB testing, etc.). Valid Driver’s License.
